Jags Softball Celebrates Senior Day With Comeback Win Over Lander

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University softball team celebrated 2017 Senior Day on Sunday afternoon at Jaguar Field during the Peach Belt Conference doubleheader against the Lander Bearcats. Augusta lost a 1-0 meeting in the first game and came back in the sixth inning of game two to win 3-2.

Augusta (9-39, 4-16 PBC) celebrated the careers of seniors Brianna Dickens, Kristen Mills, and Erin Rozier in a pregame ceremony!

Freshman Morgan Hunter (4-16) started game one for the Jags and pitched a complete game to hold Lander to four hits for one run.

McKenzi Ferguson (12-12) made the start for Lander (19-29, 7-15 PBC) and struck out the side in her fist inning of work. Ferguson tossed all seven innings to strike out seven and hold the Jags to three hits.

Sophomores Lydia Hausman and Kelsea Hunter each had a hit and junior Ashely Boyd chipped in the other in game one.

Game one was scoreless until the fourth inning when LU took a 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly. Augusta put two runners on base in their last at bat, but the Bearcats survived for the one run battle.

Senior Kristen Mills (3-18) started her final game at Jaguar Field in game two of the doubleheader and struck out three in the complete-game performance.

The Bearcats booked two runs in the third inning, but junior Carolyn Edwards scored Hausman on opposite field groundball to cut the lead in half in the fourth inning.

Down 2-1, Augusta put runners on first and second in the sixth inning. Hunter laid down a bunt to advance them both and Edwards delivered a game-tying single to centerfield. Rozier roped a double to deep centerfield in the next at bat to give the Jags a 3-2 swing.

Brianna Surrento (4-13) got the start for Lander in the second meeting and pitched six innings to allow six hits for three runs.

AU plays at Armstrong State on Friday, April 14 for a PBC doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
