Augusta Begins Final Road Trip Of Season At Armstrong

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Augusta University softball team began its final road trip of the 2017 season on Friday afternoon with a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader at Armstrong State and the Jaguars fell 12-2 and 8-0.

 

The games move Augusta to 9-41 overall and 4-18 in the Peach Belt, while Armstrong goes to 29-10 and 19-5 in the league. It is the last meeting ever between Augusta and Armstrong State after plans were announced for Georgia Southern University to take over Armstrong.

 

AU freshman Morgan Hunter (4-17) couldn't escape the first inning of game one and allowed five hits for seven runs, before sophomore Emily Hittinger came in to pitch 3.2 innings with one strikeout.

 

Senior Jane Trzaska (13-5) picked up the win in the circle for the Pirates, giving up two hits and two runs in four innings of work, walking two while striking out three. Junior Katie Collins went 3-for-3 with three runs scored to lead the Pirates offensively in game one.

 

Senior Erin Rozier had three hits on the day and totaled two RBI.

 

Jaguar senior Kristen Mills (3-19) tossed game two and struck out four in her 4.2 inning pitched while allowing 11 hits for eight runs. Senior Tori Bates (3-1) picked up the win in game two, giving up just two hits and no runs in five innings, striking out three. Coleman's two hits and two RBI paced the Pirates offensively in game two.

 

Augusta heads to St. Augustine, Fla., for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader against the Flagler Saints.
