Hausman Hits Walk-Off Homer As Jags Sweep UNCP IN League Doubleheader

 

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University softball team hosted the UNC Pembroke Braves for a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader on Saturday at Jaguar Field and won 6-3 in game one and 5-3 in game two on a walk-off home run from sophomore Lydia Hausman.

 

Augusta (7-23, 2-2 PBC) took game over UNCP (17-10, 2-2 PBC) and walked it off in game to seal the league sweep. Sophomores Lydia Hausman, Alex Head and junior Lindsey Stokes each had a hit for the Jags in game one and Hausman hammered a homer in game two. Hausman was 4-5 in game two with three RBI and two runs.

 

In game one, the Braves booked the first run in the third inning, but Augusta scored two on errors in the bottom half of the inning to steal a 2-1 advantage. UNCP made five errors in game one and the Jags capitalized to take a 6-3 victory.

 

Rookie right hander Morgan Hunter (4-6) was the game-one starter and recorded her eighth complete game to get the win. Hunter struck out one and allowed nine hits for three runs. Hunter came in late in game two to get another victory on the mound.

 

Abbey Walters (9-5) pitched six innings and gave up three hits for six runs (zero earned) in game one for the Braves. UNCP outhit Augusta 9-3, but they made five errors.

 

Augusta struck first in game one when Courtney Browne blasted her first collegiate homer for a one run lead in the second inning. UNCP fought back for three runs in the fourth inning, but the Jags scored one in the fourth and seventh to force extra innings with a 3-3 game.

 

Hausman came up with the long ball as Augusta pulled out the win. Senior Kristen Mills pitched 3.1 innings in the start, before Hunter tossed 5.2 to get the win.

 

Augusta hosts Newberry for two non-conference games on Tuesday, March 14 at 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. on Jaguar Field.
