Jags Open Peach Belt Conference Play Against Georgia College

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University softball team hosted the Georgia College Bobcats for the Peach Belt Conference opener on Saturday and lost a pair of games at Jaguar Field.

 

Augusta moved to 4-20 overall and 0-2 in the league, while the Bobcats went to 11-9 and 2-0 in the PBC. Augusta endured a 3-1 game-one loss and an 8-1 loss in the second outing.

 

In game one, a third-inning double gave Georgia College a 1-0 lead, but Marni Greenstein blasted a home run to left center to tie the ballgame for Augusta. Shawnda Martin doubled for GC in the sixth to steal a 3-1 lead as the Bobcats booked 10 hits total for a 3-1 final.

 

AU rookie Morgan Hunter (1-4) pitched a complete game and struck out five to start the doubleheader. GC's Kayla Price also went the distance and held the Jags to three hits. Faith Flanders and Baylee Hall each had three hits in game one for GC.

 

Facing off for the second time of the day, Augusta and Georgia College stayed scoreless for the first inning. The Bobcats built a 4-0 lead on AU starter Kristen Mills after three innings and went on to sweep the day with an 8-1 final.

 

Junior Lindsey Stokes led the Jaguars with a 3-4 day and freshman Courtney Browne went 2-3. Mills (1-9) pitched 5.1 innings for Augusta to give up seven hits for six runs (three earned). Browne pitched 1.2 innings in relief.

 

Flanders (3-2) tossed a complete-game win for GC, while she went 2-3 at the plate.

 

Augusta returns to Jaguar Field on Sunday, March 5 for a 1:00 p.m. non-conference doubleheader against the Carson-Newman Eagles.
