Augusta Wraps Mid-South Classic Tournament

DUNCAN, S.C. – The Augusta University softball team concluded the Mid-South Classic at Tyger River Stadium on Sunday afternoon and were defeated 6-3 by Lenoir-Rhyne and 4-1 to Limestone.

 

The Jaguars (4-16) matched nine hits with Lenoir-Rhyne (16-2) in their second meeting this season, but dropped a back-and-forth 6-3 game to begin the day. Juniors Lindsey Stokes and Auburn Balcorta and sophomore Kelsea Hunter all had a double in game one for the Jags.

 

AU carried a tied game into the bottom of the sixth inning, but the Bears brought around three runs to steal the win.

 

Jaguar rookie Courtney Browne faced 26 batters and allowed five runs on six hits in the start on the mound. Senior Kristen Mills (1-7) got the loss after surrendering three hits for a run in the sixth.

 

In game two against the Limestone Saints, AU trailed 3-0 in the fourth and produced one run in the sixth to fall 4-1. Stokes went 2-4 in game two as the Jags outhit the Saints 6-4.

 

Morgan Hunter (1-3) started her fourth game of the season for AU and struck out three while allowing four runs on four hits.

 

Next up, the Diamond Jags travel to Orangeburg, S.C., to clash with the Claflin Panthers on Wednesday, March 1 for games at 2:00 and 4:00 p.m.
