Augusta Wraps Up Non-Conference Tourney With Two Losses

SALISBURY, N.C. – The Augusta University softball team met Catawba and Pfeiffer on Saturday in non-conference action and fell 6-2 to Catawba and 5-1 to Pfeiffer at Whitley Field.

 

The Jaguars (3-11) met tourney-host Catawba (3-9) for a 10:00 a.m. matchup to begin day two of the tournament. The Indians scored two in the first inning, but the Jaguars carded two on junior Lindsey Stokes' RBI double. A Catawba homer from Leah Huggins in the bottom half of the second lifted the home team back on top. Catawba went on to win 6-2.

 

Augusta freshman Alyssa Johnson (0-1) started on the mound for the Jags and allowed three runs on five hits before freshman Courtney Browne pitched three innings.

 

Sophomore Lydia Hausman went 3-4 and Stokes 1-3 with two RBI.

 

In game two Against Pfeiffer, Augusta gave up an early lead and dropped a 5-1 contest. AU outhit Pfeiffer (5-0) 7-5, but the Jags left nine runners on base to Pfeiffer's six.

 

Senior righty Kristen Mills (1-3) went 6.0 innings and allowed five runs on five hits as the starting pitcher.

 

Augusta hosts Wingate on Wednesday, Feb. 22 for a 1:00 p.m. non-conference doubleheader at Jaguar Field in Augusta, Ga.
