Jags Drop Two At Coker In First Road Games Of Season

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Augusta University softball team traveled for the first road games of the 2017 season on Thursday afternoon and fell to the Coker Cobras twice in non-conference action at Saleeby-Stokes Field.

The Jaguars (2-4) endured a 10-1 run-rule loss in game one. Senior Kristen Mills (1-2) went 4.2 innings in her third start of the year and allowed 10 runs on nine hits, while striking out five. Junior Lindsey Stokes was 3-3 at the plate in the leadoff spot and sophomore Lydia Hausman was 2-3.

The Cobras' Maria Williamson went 3-4 with two RBI and Taylor Barcomb 3-3 with five RBI for Coker. Taylor Forehand (2-0) got the win on the mound for the Cobras – pitching 5.0 innings to give up one run on seven hits.

Stokes, junior Auburn Balcorta, and Hausman all had a hit in game two, but an early Coker lead was too much to overcome as Augusta slipped 5-1.

Augusta's pitching staff left nine Coker runners on base, but the Jags committed three errors. Freshman Courtney Browne logged start number two on the season and went 4.0 innings. She struck out three and surrendered five hits for two runs, before Morgan Hunter pitched a pair of innings and sat down four while allowing two hits.

Augusta hosts the Anderson Trojans for a 1:00 p.m. non-conference doubleheader on Sunday, Feb. 12 at Jaguar Field.
