For the second straight day, Augusta (2-2) took down Catawba thanks to 13 hits and solid pitching. The Jags won 5-4 over the Indians led by freshman Courtney Browne on the mound.
Browne (1-0) made her first collegiate start on Sunday and tossed 6.0 innings to give up seven hits for four runs (three earned). Browne was also 3-3 for at the plate with two RBI.
Freshman righty Morgan Hunter hurled an inning for AU to close out game one. Sophomore Lydia Hausman shined as the Jaguar designated hitter and went 4-4 with two RBI and a run and sophomore Kelsea Hunter had a 2-4 outing.
AU put up two runs again in the first inning. After Catawba tied the game 2-2 in the second, the Jags scored three late runs to take the non-conference victory.
Caroline Turner (0-1) took the loss for Catawba in 3.1 innings of work, after Kaylee Cook logged 2.2 innings.
The Jags also hosted a neutral site game between the West Georgia Wolves and the Catawba Indians and the Wolves pulled out a 6-5 win.
In game two, UWG won 5-1. Senior Kristen Mills logged a complete game on the mound and gave up eight hits for five runs. Hausman added two more hits.
The Jaguars play at Coker in Hartsville, S.C., on Thursday, Feb. 9 for a 1:00 p.m. non-conference doubleheader.
