Pacers Salvage Split With ASU

AIKEN, S.C. – Augusta State and USC Aiken split a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader Tuesday at JH Satcher Field.

The twinbill marked the end of the regular season for the Jaguars (31-15, 12-8 PBC), who are back in action beginning Friday, April 20 in Columbus, Ga., for the PBC Championships.

Game one was a pitcher's duel as each team managed just three hits. ASU senior outfielder Kristen Jones launched a solo home run – her fifth of the season -- in the top of the seventh that proved to be the difference in the contest.

ASU senior hurler Emily Headrick (16-5) earned the complete-game win, striking out five without a walk.

The Pacers (25-16, 10-10 PBC) jumped out early in game two and combined for eight hits in 2-1 victory. Kayla Denham provided an RBI-double in the fourth inning and later scored on a passed ball to put the hosts in front 2-0.

India Kornegay (19-11) pitched a complete game in the opener and fanned eight batters before saving game two in relief of Samantha Lemm.

Heather Hughes (10-8) suffered the loss in the circle for the Jags in game two, surrendering eight hits in 5.0 innings.

No Jaguar had more than one hit and Macy Terry drove in ASU's only run with a double.
