Bears Earn Road Sweep

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Lenoir-Rhyne picked up a non-conference sweep of Augusta State Tuesday afternoon at Jaguar Field.

The Bears -- ranked as high as No. 9 in the nation earlier this season -- jumped ahead early in both games, blanking ASU 4-0 in game one and 6-0 in the second game.

L-R starters Dawon Millwood (24-5) and Lauren Harris (7-2) limited the Jaguars to just six combined hits in the twinbill.

No ASU player had more than one hit on the afternoon. Jags' hurler Emily Headrick (14-3) took the loss in the opener, despite allowing only five hits. She was charged with four runs, four strikeouts and two walks.

In game two, ASU starter Heather Hughes (9-5) surrendered nine hits and five runs in 3.2 innings. The Bears broke the game open with three runs in the fifth for a 5-0 lead before tacking on a run in the seventh.

The Jags travel to USC Aiken on Thursday, April 5 for a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader beginning at 4:00 p.m., at JH Satcher Field.
