ASU Crushes West Georgia

CARROLLTON, Ga. – Augusta State used timely late-inning hitting and then dominated the second game en route to a sweep at West Georgia Wednesday.

The Jaguars (11-5) fell behind early as Emily Headrick's scoreless inning streak was snapped immediately in the first inning on an RBI double. Headrick entered the game having failed to give up a run in 14 straight innings.

The Wolves tacked on another in the bottom the third before ASU got on the board the next half-inning, as Molly Walton got aboard on an error, stole second, advanced to third on a throwing error, and scored on Kristen Jones' sac fly to right.

The score remained 2-1 in West Georgia's favor until the top of the sixth; Walton started things off with a walk, and Jones bombed a two-run blast to deep center field to give the Jaguars the lead and the win.

Headrick (5-2) hurled a complete game, giving up just five hits and two runs while striking out eight.

ASU followed up the win in style, enjoying a 13-run fourth inning to seal the sweep. The Jaguars nearly batted around twice in the inning, and five players scored twice in the inning.

Heather Hughes (4-1) coasted to the win, allowing just one hit in three innings. Kacee Camp and Walton each had four runs, while Jessica Thornton went 4-for-4 and knocked in five RBI. Macy Terry (2-for-3, 4 RBI) and Kaitlin Harris (3-for-5, 3 RBI, 2 runs scored) also enjoyed a strong offensive outing.

Augusta State returns home to host St. Andrews Sunday, March 4 beginning at 2:00 p.m before welcoming Le Moyne Thursday, March 8 at 1:00 p.m.
