NEW ORLEANS, La. – Augusta University head men's cross country coach Adam Ward was voted the 2018 NCAA Southeast Region Coach of the Year, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced on Tuesday following Regional Championship Weekend, as voted by member coaches from the division.
"Complete surprise," Ward said. "I'm really humbled by this. The region coaches vote on it and I honestly wasn't expecting it as it usually goes to the school's coach that wins."
An eight-time Peach Belt Conference Coach of the Year and in his 15th season with the program, Ward was voted the best coach in the region for the first time of his career. He led his team to a third-place finish at the Southeast Regionals. It is just the third time that the program has advanced to NCAAs, which it has now accomplished in two straight seasons. He had four All-Region athletes at the meet as the Jaguars tied their program best for a regional performance.
With a young roster of nine freshmen, three sophomores, and a lone senior, the Jaguars finished third or better all season, including two wins and a runner-up finish at the Peach Belt Conference Championships. Four Jags were named All-PBC as well. Ward also is the head coach for women's cross country and the men's and women's track and field teams at Augusta University.

These selected athletes and coaches will end their seasons with the running of the 2018 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships in Pittsburgh, Pa., on Saturday, Dec. 1.
