Augusta Jags Finish Runner Up At Peach Belt Conference Championships

BEECH ISLAND, S.C. – Augusta University hosted the Peach Belt Conference Championships on Saturday morning at Redcliffe Plantation State Historic Site. The Jaguars missed winning its fourth conference title by four points and took second behind UNC Pembroke.

 

 

UNCP won the team title with 36 points, while Augusta took second (40), Flagler third (81), Georgia College fourth (87), Columbus State fifth (95), Clayton State sixth (171), Lander seventh (223), and Francis Marion eighth (235). UNCP's Joshua Chepkesir won the individual title in 24:22.3.

 

Ranked fourth in the NCAA Southeast Region, the Augusta men have finished top three in all four regular-season events this season, including back-to-back victories at the home meet and at the North Georgia Invitational. The second-place showing was AU's third runner-up finish in school history at the PBC finals.

 

The Jags were paced by sophomore Hunter Kimball who took third overall in 24:49.6. Augusta had three in the top five, with sophomore Jacob Poston posting the fourth-best finish in 24:57.9 and senior Noah Hulett fifth in 24:58.5.

 

AU's Chandler Kennedy grabbed ninth with a time of 24:43.2 and freshmen trio Rakeem Littles, Joshua Seiden, and Hans Troyer placed 19th, 20th, and 21st. Jags freshmen Kai Brickey (23rd), Jacob Brenneman (25th), Anthony Urmetz (26th), Chris Shelp (34th), and Ryan Gallagher (41st) round out the team in the 72-man field.

 

Hunter KimballJacob PostonChandler Kennedy and Noah Hulett earned Peach Belt All-Conference status for placing in the top 15.

 

The NCAA Southeast Regionals take place on Saturday, Nov. 17 in Gainesville, Ga. hosted by the University of North Georgia.
