NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Augusta University men's cross country team is ranked third in the NCAA Southeast Region preseason poll from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) that was released on Tuesday afternoon.
The USTFCCCA Regional Cross Country Rankings are determined subjectively by a single member coach in each respective region. The regional representative is tasked with weighing returning teams' strength with current season results (if applicable) in determining predicted team finishes at the NCAA Regional Championships.
Augusta will look towards newcomers to step up this season. The team only returns three athletes, but have brought in a ton of new promising talent. All-Region and All-Conference selections Noah Hulett and Hunter Kimball return for the Jags, along with All-PBC honoree Jacob Poston.
Augusta finished the 2017 NCAA Southeast Region in third. The Jags join Columbus State (7th), Georgia College (8th), and UNC Pembroke (9th) as the four PBC teams to make the USTFCCCA preseason ranks.
The Jags open the season on Saturday, Sept. 8 at the Bulldog Invitational, hosted by UGA in Athens, Ga.
