NEW ORLEANS, La. – Coming off two victories to open the 2017 season, the Augusta University men's cross country team climbed to third place in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) week one rankings that were released on Tuesday afternoon.
Augusta won the division II portion of the season-opening Eye Opener Invitational in Spartanburg, S.C., on Sept. 1 and most recently dominated their home on Sept. 9 at the Jaguar Cross Country Invitational. They are ranked third in the NCAA Southeast Region.
Mount Olive held onto the top spot, Queens is second, Augusta third, UNC Pembroke fourth, Anderson fifth, Columbus State sixth, Georgia College seventh, Flagler eighth, Lincoln Memorial ninth, and Lenoir-Rhyne.
The men's and women's teams that held the top spot in each of the eight regions two weeks ago remain in place in this edition of the rankings, announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Tuesday. Additionally, there were only six teams that made a jump into second place across the eight men's and eight women's regions.
