Augusta Earns Back-To-Back Wins With Victory At Jaguar XC Invitational

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University men's cross country team repeated at their home event and won the 2017 Jaguar Cross Country Invitational on the Flowing Wells Campus of the Episcopal Day School. Augusta hosted a men's 8K with six teams and the Jaguars took the top seven individual spots, with junior Daniel Broadhead earning first place for the second year in a row at the event.

 

 

Augusta won the 2016 edition of the Jaguar XC Invitational and also took home first-place last week at the season-opening Eye Opener Invitational in Spartanburg, S.C. Piedmont placed second, Clayton State carded third, Albany State sealed fourth, Lander fifth, and Paine sixth.

 

AU junior Daniel Broadhead delivered a time of 27:02.03 to win the event, while he was followed closely by a pack of Jaguars.

 

Rookie Hunter Kimball came in second (27:14.88), senior Dylan Forester third (27:33.51), freshman Jacob Poston fourth (27:41.68), senior Josh Thompson fifth (27:51.11), junior Noah Hulett sixth (27:53.76), and freshman Merrick Rizzo seventh (27:57.14). Junior David Perez-Santiago grabbed 20th in 29.57.58 to close out AU in the 42 team event.

 

The Jaguars had several familiar faces on the course as an Augusta alumni team ran unattached featuring alumni Adam Aldridge, Boyd Guttery, Clay Holton, Matt Johnson, and Dustin Ross.

 

Augusta heads to the Wingate Bulldog Stampede in Wingate, N.C., for a 6K hosted by Wingate on Saturday, Sept. 23.
