AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Peach Belt Conference continued their post-championship awards, announcing the men's and women's All-Academic Teams from the conference offices in Augusta, Ga. The award is given to student-athletes who have excelled on the course and in the classroom for the current year.
Three top runners for the Jaguars made the All-Academic Team, with two more earning honorable mentions.
Juniors Jaiden Brandt and Clay Holton earned All-Academic Honors for the men's team and junior Adam Aldridge earned honorable mention. For the women's squad, sophomore Stephanie Cipollone earned All-Academic honors, with sophomore Jessica Carpenter being named honorable mention.
Majoring in music with 3.78 GPA, Brandt was recently named first-team all-conference after his team-leading fourth place finish at this year's PBC Championships. He has finished in the top-10 in three of the five meets so far this season, taking second place at the Jaguar Invitational where he led his team to a second place finish.
Holton, a kinesiology major with 3.53 GPA, ran in three events for the Jaguars, crossing the line sixth for ASU at the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic, in Memphis, Tenn., for his best team finish on the season. Honorable mention, Adam Aldridge also ran in three meets, taking seventh for ASU at the Jaguar Invitational and eighth for the team at the PBC Championships.
Stephanie Cipollone, the only women's runner to be named All-Academic, improved her time at this year's PBC Championships crossing the line in 25:50.97 for a third-place finish for the team. Sophomore Jessica Carpenter earned honorable mention. Carpenter has been the top women's runner for the Jags this season, finishing first for the team at the PBC Championships with an improved time from last year to take 14th overall.
To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must participate in at least half of his/her team's events and is either a starter or significant contributor; achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution. The PBC Sports Information Directors oversee and select the teams.
ASU Cross Country is now preparing for the NCAA Southeast Regional at McAlpine Park, in Charlotte, N.C. on Saturday, Nov. 3.
