AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State men's cross country head coach Adam Ward announced Wednesday the signing of Jimmy Spencer to a national letter-of-intent.

A talented prospect from Aurora Central Catholic High School in Aurora, Ill., Spencer is a three-time state qualifier in indoor and outdoor track. A four-time, cross country team MVP and three-year team captain, Spencer has earned similar accolades in track, including consecutive co-MVP honors as a sophomore and junior.

He has established personal bests in the 800 meters (2:01), 1600 meters (4:36), 3200-meter relay (2:02) and 3.1 miles (15:37).

"We are pleased to have Jimmy joining our program here this upcoming year," Ward said. "He has a strong background and is a very strong runner. He comes from a great high school program and I expect he will be a solid contributor to our current team."

The 2010 ASU men's squad, in its first season since 2002, advanced to the NCAA Southeast Regional and finished 12th out of 25 teams.
