Jaguars Fifth At PBC’s

EVANS, Ga. – The Augusta State men's cross country program wrapped up its first season in eight years Saturday morning when the Jaguars finished fifth in the Peach Belt Conference Championships at Blanchard Woods Park. The championships are part of the weekend-long PBC Fall Festival.

The Jaguars, who were participating in the PBC Championships for the first time since 2002, were paced by the freshman duo of Dustin Ross and Robert Blackwelder, who finished ninth and 10th, respectively. Both were named to the PBC All-Conference second team at the conclusion of the 8K race.

Ross posted a time of 26:30, with Blackwelder close behind at 26:32. Junior Clay Holton was 23rd at 27:41, followed by freshman Matthew Johnson in 27th at 27:54. Freshman Sean Kramer took 33rd at 28:37, freshman Adam Aldridge was 34th at 28:42 and freshman Joey Castillo was 43rd with an effort of 29:46.

Columbus State's Meshack Koyiaki shattered the course record and helped Columbus State win its fifth consecutive conference championship. UNC Pembroke equaled its best conference finish ever, coming in second while Clayton State finished third.  Georgia College was fourth and ASU took fifth.

Koyiaki broke the course 8k record by over two minutes in a time of 24:13. He became the first runner since Kennesaw State's Joseph Mutai to win back-to-back conference championships and became only the third PBC runner to repeat as champion

The top seven runners in Saturday's race were named first-team All-Conference while the second seven were named to the second team (see list below).
