AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The Augusta State men's and
women's cross country programs host the Jaguar Invitational on
Saturday, Oct. 9 at Blanchard Woods Park in Evans, Ga.
The ASU women's squad is ranked sixth in the latest Southeast
Region rankings. Sophomore Holly Keeper has posted the Lady
Jaguars' best finishes in each of their first two events, including
an 18th-place showing last weekend in the Greater Louisville
Classic.
The field for the women's 6K portion of the Jaguar Invitational
includes ASU, Benedict, Covenant, Georgia Southern and USC Aiken.
The men's race will feature ASU, Benedict and Covenant.
The men's 10K race will get underway at 8:00 a.m., with the
women's 6K run set to start at 8:45 a.m.
The invitational will also include boy's and girl's high school
races. Several local teams, including Lakeside, Greenbrier, Evans,
Grovetown, Aquinas and Augusta Christian, are expected to
compete.
"We are expecting a small field in the men's and women's
collegiate races this weekend, but the competition should still be
very good," said ASU head coach Adam Ward. "All of the universities
that will be present have very accomplished coaches and
student-athletes. I know we are looking forward to running at home
this weekend. The cooler temperatures should make for great racing
conditions this Saturday."
