MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.
– The Augusta State men's and women's cross country squads
enjoyed a successful season opener Friday in a dual meet with
Georgia College & State.
The Lady Jaguars took first place, while the ASU men's squad,
competing for the first time since 2001, finished runnerup to
Savannah College of Art and Design by just three points.
The ASU women (32) outpointed SCAD (44) by 12 points to win the
meet. Sophomores Holly Keeper and Claudia Nunez-Lopez and junior
Lyndsay Nichols finished fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively.
Junior Celia Kresser (eighth) and freshman Alicia Connolly (ninth)
booked top-10 efforts as well.
In the men's meet, Jaguar senior Simon Hoyden
took third individually, while freshman Robert
Blackwelder was right behind in fourth place. Freshmen Matthew
Johnson and Joey Castillo
posted top-10 efforts as well, while fellow frosh Dustin Ross was
14th.
Both Jaguar squads return to action on Saturday, Sept. 25 when
they travel to Aiken, S.C., to compete in the USCA Pacer
Invitational.
