Kimball Named All-Conference As Jaguars Shine On Opening Day Of PBC Championships

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Augusta University men's outdoor track and field team opened the 2019 Peach Belt Conference Championships Thursday on the campus of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Augusta sophomore Hunter Kimball earned All-Conference honors by taking second in the 10,000 meter race with a time of 31:24.00, while a pack of Jaguars earned top-10 finishes.  

 

 

The top-three finishers in each event earn All-PBC honors.

 

Behind Kimball in the 10,000-meter, AU senior Noah Hulett placed fifth overall in 31:53.85 and senior Dylan Forester took sixth in 32:31.55. Freshman Chandler Kennedy's eighth-place mark in 33:33.17 gave Augusta four top-10 finishes in the event.

 

Jaguar junior Tyrell Jacobs placed second in flight one of the long jump with a distance of 6.64m and earned eighth overall. Sophomore Andre Walker gave Augusta a 12th-place showing in the long jump (6.37m) and freshman Tyrese Smalley grabbed 17th (5.18m) overall.

 

In the javelin throw, Augusta had four athletes compete. Freshmen Alex Rountree led the way with a toss that measured 41.97m. Freshmen Christopher Schintgen (14th), Tremond Hatton (16th), and senior Tommy Woods (17th) rounded the event for AU.

 

Hatton is currently sixth in the decathlon and sophomore Sean McCreary is also sixth in the prelims of the 100-meter race. Freshmen distance duo Rakeem Littles and Chandler Kennedy sit second and third in the 1500-meter prelims, while sophomore Zatrick Pearce, freshman Xavier Allen, and sophomore Joshua Hewing are fourth, fifth, and seventh after the prelims of the 400 meter.

 

The event continues Friday, April 19 and Saturday, April 20. The PBC Championships, which are hosted by Embry-Riddle, will resume on Friday at 8:00 a.m. with the continuation of the heptathlon and decathlon. Field events are slated to get underway at 2:00 p.m., while running events will start back up at 4:30 p.m.
