Augusta Takes Fourth At PBC Championships

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Augusta University men's outdoor track and field team finished in fourth place at the 2019 Peach Belt Conference Championships on Saturday afternoon. The Jaguars had several All-Conference performances on the campus of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

 

 

Augusta opened the event on Thursday, endured a weather delay on Friday, and ended the championships on Saturday. The top-three finishers in each event earned All-PBC honors. After winning the 10,000-meter race on Thursday, sophomore Hunter Kimball crushed the 5,000 meter and won the event out of 22 racers in 14:59.49.

 

On Friday, Jaguar junior Leke Adeleye highlighted the night by setting a new school record in the triple jump and won the event with a distance of 14.50m. Adeleye also reached the provisional time for the NCAA and earned All-Conference status. In the pole vault, Augusta sophomore Christopher Schingten grabbed sixth in 3.35m and in the decathlon, AU's Tremond Hatton, took sixth out of 11 in the 10-event challenge. 

 

AU's 4x400 meter-relay team of Xavier Allen, Derrian Wright, Zatrick Pearce, and Josh Hewing took second overall in 3:18.89 to set a new school record. Augusta's 4x100 relay team of Sean McCreary, Andre Walker, Joshua Hewing, and Zatrick Pearce edged out UNC Pembroke with six points and took third overall in the event with a time of 41.87. McCreary carded fourth place in the 100 meter race in a time of 10.70, while Pearce also earned fourth in the 400 meter with a time of 48.69. 

 

Freshmen trio Hans Troyer, Rakeem Littles, and Josh Seiden placed fourth, fifth, and sixth in the 3000-meter steeplechase, while the Jags also had three top-10 finishes in the finals of the 800 meter. Sophomore Jacob Poston carded sixth, sophomore Derrian Wright eighth, and freshman Kai Brickey 10th. Pearce pushed his effort to take fifth overall in the 200-meter race with a time of 22.81, while Hewing grabbed 11th (23.26), and McCreary 18th (23.77).

 

The Jaguars produced four top-10 finishes in the 1,500-meter race. Poston crossed the line first for AU and took second in 4:03.80 and freshmen Kai Brickey, Rakeem Littles, and Chandler Kennedy took fourth, sixth, and ninth. Poston had another second-place finish in the 1,500-meter race and crossed the finish line in 4:03.80. Brickey booked fourth in 4:05.33, Littles sixth in 4:08.62, and Kennedy ninth in 4:11.33.

 

In the throws event, senior Tommy Woods earned in 13th in the discus and junior Anthony Mounzer 15th. Woods and Mounzer also carded ninth and 10th in the shot put and Woods placed 10th in the hammer throw.
