PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Augusta University men's outdoor track and field team finished the Peach Belt Conference Championships on Saturday and took fifth place out of seven teams at the Dick & Lenore Taylor Track.
The Jags finished fifth of seven teams with 85 points. Embry-Riddle won the championship with 234.5 points. In second came UNC Pembroke and Nova Southeastern in third, with 205 and 120 points, respectively.
In the field, sophomore Tommy Woods finished ninth in the hammer toss with a throw of 35.35 meters. Senior Daniel Langston broke yet another school record with his shot put throw of 14.32 meters, taking fourth in the process. Behind him came Woods in ninth with 12.14 meters, and sophomore Anthony Mounzer in 15th with 11.85.
On the track, junior Noah Hulett snagged third in the 5000 meters with a time of 15:13.15. He was trailed closely by freshman Hunter Kimball in sixth with 15:27.84 and senior Josh Thompson in seventh with 15:30.58.
In the 110 meter hurdles, senior Taylor Coxwell crossed the line in eighth in 16.00. Coxwell also finished seventh in the 400 meters hurdles with a time of 58.11. Sophomore Shane Rowand followed in eleventh with 1:01.72, while also taking fifth in the 400 meters in 50.76.
In the 100 meters, sophomore Andre Walker snapped up sixth with a time of 10.59. Freshman Josh Hewing finished eighth in the 200 meters in 23.13, and in the 800 meters, fellow freshman Jacob Poston finished in eighth with a time of 1:58.52. Poston also took seventh in the 1500 meters in 4:05.76.
The Jags concluded the event as the 4x400 team, consisting of freshmen Sean McCreary, Derrian Wright, Tyler Morez, as well as Shane Rowand, finished fourth with a time of 3:24.89.
The Jaguars ended up having seven named to the All-Conference team. Daniel Langston was also named to this year's All Sportsmanship Team.
Augusta heads to the Seminole Twilight on Friday, May 4, hosted by Florida State, in Tallahassee, Fla.
