Jags Take 13th At Berry Field Day Invitational

ROME, Ga. – The Augusta University men's outdoor track and field team traveled to Rome, Ga. this weekend to compete in the Berry Field Day Invitational and finished 13th out of 21 competing schools.

 

Hosted by Berry College, the meet was won by Emory with 95.5 points, followed by Lee in second with 86 points and Shorter in third with 67 points to lead the field. The Jags took 13th with 22 points. It was Augusta's second meet of the season at Berry College, after they won the Victor Icebreaker Duals on Saturday, March 3.

 

The Jaguars had a plethora of top-10 finishes across the weekend. In the field, sophomore Anthony Mounzer finished seventh in the discus throw with a toss of 36.67 meters. He was followed by fellow sophomore Tommy Woods in ninth with a distance of 36.51 meters. Woods also secured 10th in the shot put with a score of 11.51 meters.

 

Sophomore Andre Walker took eighth in the long jump with a distance of 6.59 meters and in the pole vault, sophomore Dalton Carr took ninth with a height of 3.78 meter. His score was matched by senior Taylor Coxwell in 11th. The two were followed closely by freshman Christopher Schintgen in 13th with 3.18 meters.

 

On the track, the 4x100 team of freshmen Josh Hewing and Sean McCreary, sophomore Andre Walker, and senior Justin Harrison finished second with a time of 41.98. In the 110 hurdles, Coxwell finished eighth in 16.14 and in the 400 hurdles, sophomore Shane Rowand took 10th in 58.87.

 

Freshman Daniel Gibson snagged a top-five finish in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:30.78. Another freshman, Jacob Poston, finished seventh in the 1500m with a time of 4:04.39. Josh Hewing also rounded out the top-10 in the 200m with 22.42.

 

The Jaguars look to take home the Peach Belt Conference Championship in their next outing April 19-21, hosted by UNC Pembroke, in Pembroke, N.C.
