AU Earns Eighth At Emory Invite

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Augusta University men's outdoor track and field team traveled to Atlanta, Ga. this weekend to compete in this year's Emory Invitational, hosted by Emory University. The regionally ranked Jaguars finished eighth out of 19 competing schools. 

 

Cedarville took first with 117 points, followed by Tennessee Wesleyan with 73 and Columbus State with 72 in second and third, respectively.

 

Daniel Langston led the Jaguars in the field as the senior broke a trio of new school records.  First, in the javelin throw, Langston finished seventh with a distance of 47.06 meters, beating out the previous record of 46.13 meters. Langston also took seventh in shot put, setting the new record at 13.49 meters. His best finish of the day came in the discus throw, where he took third overall, breaking the previous record of 40.07 meters with a toss of 41.05 meters.

 

Sophomore Dalton Carr also established a new school record in the pole vault with a height of 3.8 meters, taking 10th place in the process.

 

Lastly, freshman Andre Walker took the only other top-five finish as he took fifth in the long jump with a distance of 6.77 meters.

 

On the track, the Augusta 4x100 team of freshmen Sean McCreary, Zatrick Pearce, Josh Hewing, and senior Justin Harrison took second overall with a time of 41.92.

 

The Jaguars completely dominated the 10,000 meter race with junior Noah Hulett winning the event with a time of 32:08.5. He was followed by freshman Hunter Kimball in second with 32:15.17, and senior Josh Thompson in fourth with 32:27.33.

 

Josh Hewing finished fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 22.2. Daniel Gibson also snagged a fifth-place finish in the 5000 meters with a time of 16:43.74. Other top-10 finishes included: sophomore Shane Rowand (400m, eighth), Josh Hewing (400m, ninth), and senior Taylor Coxwell (400 hurdles, tenth).

 

The Jaguars will be in action again April 5-7 at the William and Mary Colonial Relays, hosted by College of William and Mary, in Williamsburg, Va.
