Augusta Track & Field Sends Split Squad To Wingate Invitational

WINGATE, N.C. – The Augusta University women's and men's outdoor track and field teams were represented in 11 events on Friday in the third annual Wingate Invitational at the Irwin Belk Track Complex.

 

Wingate hosted their annual track event with windy conditions for the third edition. The Bulldogs welcomed athletes from Allen (S.C.), Augusta, Barton, Coker, Columbia International, Guilford, Limestone, Pfeiffer, Queens, Shaw, Washington & Lee, and Winston-Salem State.

 

Teams sent select athletes who are trying to qualify for the NCAA standard time to advance to the postseason.

 

WOMEN'S RESULTS

Augusta finished the 4x100 meter relay in 49.62, with sophomore Morgan Mitchell, freshman Edrei Yates, sophomore Susan Obi, and junior Heather Hammett competing.

 

Earning her fifth win of the season, Hammett dominated the 400 meter hurdles with a winning time of 1:02.95.

 

Yates represented AU in the 100 meter and 200 meter races. She placed second in the 200m in 26.79 and took sixth in the 100m in 12.85. Mitchell finished right behind Yates in the 200 with a time of 26.98.

 

MEN'S RESULTS

Augusta sophomore Kudakwashe Nyahuma ran the 100 meter dash in 11.01 to take third overall and Ryan White placed seventh in 11.63.

 

Sophomore Anderson Constant, seniors Justin Harrison, Ryan White, and Nyahuma notched third in the 4x100 relay in 43.66.

 

Sophomore Daniel Broadhead won the 3000 meter steeplechase for Augusta with a time of 9:31.87. It was his sixth top-five finish of the season and his second time winning the event this year. Junior Josh Thompson led Augusta in the 5000 meter run and took third overall in 15:32.72, while sophomore Noah Hulett placed fourth in 15:51.30.

 

In the 400 meter run, senior Andrew Folk crossed the line in 50.06 to grab second overall, while Constant also carded second in the 110 meter hurdles in 15.24. Rookie Shane Rowand earned second in the 400 meter hurdles in 59.98 for the Jaguars.
