Augusta Men’s Track Finishes Fourth At 2017 Trojan Challenge

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Augusta University men's outdoor track and field team finished the Mount Olive Trojan Challenge in fourth place in Mount Olive, N.C. It was the third meet of the year for the Jaguars. Augusta set two new school records.

 
 

Hosted by the University of Mount Olive, the Trojan Challenge featured six competing teams. UMO won their event with 230 points and Slippery Rock took second with 217 points. UNC Pembroke placed third (141), Augusta fourth (89), Barton fifth (38), and Coker sixth (24).

AU's 4x100 meter relay team of Albert Acheampong, Justin Harrison, Kudakwashe Nyahuma, and Ryan White finished second out of six groups in 42.53. They set the new school record for the Jaguars – besting the 2015 mark. Nyahuma nearly won the 100 meter race, but took second out of 31 sprinters with a time of 10.77. Harrison finished 11th (11.10) and White, Andy Constant, and Acheampong placed 19th, 20th, and 21st.

In the 5000 meter race, Dylan Forester won the event in 15:18.91 and Josh Thompson finished next in 15:21.75. Noah Hulett crossed the line in 15:27.68 for fourth, Zack Hill seventh in 16:03.69 and Will Hammesfahr 12th in 17:22.67 for a strong Augusta finish. 

Jaguar sophomore Daniel Broadhead dominated the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:49.85 – besting second place by 10 seconds. Broadhead shattered the school record time and now owns the steeplechase for Augusta.

 

The Jaguars won the 4x400 meter relay with Shane Rowand, Ryan White, Justin Harrison and Andrew Folk winning in 3:25.44.

 

Senior Taylor Coxwell earned third in the 110m hurdles and fourth in the high jump. Andrew Folk fought for sixth in the 400 meter race with a time of 50.36 and

 

Senior Daniel Langston launched the javelin 40.42 meters to take sixth, senior Ryan White eighth in 38.79m, and graduate student Austin Wofford 16th in 33.34m.

 

Augusta heads to Atlanta, Ga., for the Emory Classic March 24-25.
