Men’s Track Wins Four Events At Susan Rouse Invitational

CENTRAL, S.C. – The Augusta University men's outdoor track and field team competed in their fifth event of the 2017 season at the Susan Rouse Invitational and had a combined total of four first-place finishes on the weekend.

 
 

Hosted by Southern Wesleyan University, the 2017 SRI was a two-day event in Central, S.C., with a full field of men's and women's teams.  

 

Augusta senior Taylor Coxwell earned first in place in decathlon and set a new school record for the Jaguars. Coxwell took first out of five athletes in the 10-event competition – highlighted by first in the javelin throw, 110 meter hurdles, and the high jump. His distance of 46.13m in the javelin was also a new school record.

 

Dylan Forester gave the Jags another first-place showing in the 5000 meter – posting a time of 15:21.32 to finish first in the 24-man race.

 

Ranked nationally for the 100-meter race, Kudakwashe Nyahuma finished second in the 100 meter with a time of 10.88 in the 29-man field. In the 400 meter race, Andrew Folk took third out of 21 in 50.39 and in the 1500 meter, Augusta got four top-20 finishes. Daniel Broadhead crossed the line in 4:06.58 to pace AU and take third, Josh Thompson took sixth (4:12.69), Dylan Forester 14th (4:22.58), and David Perez-Santiago 17th (4:24.55).

 

Four athletes competed in the 110 meter hurdles, and Augusta's Anderson Constant carded first with a time of 15.54. Shane Rowand raced the 400 hurdles and placed sixth in 58.15.

 

AU grabbed another top finish in the 4x100 relay when Ryan White, Nyahuma, Albert Acheampong, and Justin Harrison teamed to win the event in 42.87. Harrison, Folk, Rowand, and White earned third in 4x400 meter rally as well with an end time of 3:26.37.

 

Austin Wofford launched the discus 37.34 meters to place third overall and White sent the javelin 41.47 meters for a fifth-place showing for Augusta.

 

The Jaguars head to the Peach Belt Conference Championships April 20-22 at the University of Montevallo in Montevallo, Ala.
