Five Jags Named Division II All-Region

U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association names 646 men, 619 women to list

AUGUSTA, Ga. – In just their second season of competition, the GRU Augusta Outdoor Track and Field teams had a combined total of five student-athletes named to the 2014 Division II All-Region list by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Monday afternoon with the men posting three and the women's squad two.

For the men's team, senior Jaiden Brandt made the list for his performance in the 10,000 meter run, junior Christian Collier for the long jump and senior Garrett Matthews for the decathlon. Brandt was named the Male Student-Athlete of the Year at the 2014 GRU Augusta Athletics Awards Banquet, while Collier took home Most Valuable Player honors for men's track and field and Matthews the Coaches Award. A total of 646 men made the USTFCCCA's All-Region team to combine for 905 total awards.

The top five individuals in each event from each region earned the All-Region distinction, in addition to each of the members of the regions' top three relay teams. The regions used for this award match those used during the cross country season, and student-athletes must come from USTFCCCA member institutions.

Freshman Sabiyah Broderick and freshman Jordan Humphrey represented the Jaguar women on this year's All-Region team. Broderick and Humphrey were both named Most Valuable Player, with Broderick earning the award for women's track and field and Humphrey for women's cross country at this year's awards banquet. Broderick's results in the heptathlon and Humphrey's in the 10,000 meter run earned them a spot on the list of 619 women, who garnered 911 total awards. The first five competitors in each event from each region earned the All-Region distinction, in addition to each of the members of the regions' top three relay teams

The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) is a non-profit professional organization representing cross country and track & field coaches of all levels.
