Jags Compete at PBC Championships

ROME, Ga. – The GRU Augusta Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field teams competed at the Peach Belt Conference Championships this past weekend in Rome, Ga., to conclude the regular season. The meet was contested over a three-day period and was hosted by Shorter University for the second consecutive year

Top performances on the weekend for the men included Jaiden Brandt's second place finish (32:03.64) in the 10,000m run, and Christian Collier's second place finish (7.09m) in the long jump.  However, leading the charge on the men's side was junior, Dustin Ross, who outkicked the rest of the men's 1500m field and crossed the line first in a time of 3:55.07.  Ross's victory marked the second time in history that a GRU track & field athlete has been crowned champion in the PBC.  On the women's side, the Jags were led by Sabiyah Broderick's third place finish in the women's heptathlon.  Over the span of two days and seven events, Broderick finished with a total of 3,687 points.

While missing out on a team title, the weekend still proved to be a success for the Jaguars.  Between both GRU squads a total of twelve school records were broken and even more personal bests set. On the men's side records were set in the long jump (Christian Collier), 3000m steeplechase (Adam Aldridge), decathlon (Garrett Matthews), 4 x 400m relay (Kevin Carly, Caleb Watson, Ryan White, and Allen Eckles), and long jump (Macey Zellner and Taylor Coxwell).  The women carried on the Jags' record setting ways by setting new school records in the heptathlon (Sabiyah Broderick), 100m dash (Angelica Clayton), 400m dash  (Aaliyah Pettway), 3000m steeplechase and 800m run (Morgan Ryffe), long jump (Ahsley Johnson), and women's 4 x 400m relay (Morgan Ryffe, Aaliyah Pettway, Adanna Thompson, and Ashley Love).

Coach Adam Ward was very pleased with how his teams finished off the season.  "It's been a very strong second season for Jaguar Track and Field," Ward said.  "There were many outstanding performances by our athletes this weekend.  While we're happy with what we have accomplished this spring, we will look forward to improving even more next year.  I am excited to see what the future holds for this program."
