AUGUSTA, Ga. – The GRU Augusta Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field Teams were in two places at once this past weekend, as athletes competed in both the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C., and the Shorter Invitational in Rome, Ga. Both meets provided the Jaguars with opportunities to test themselves against high-level competition in all events.
Christian Collier represented the men's team well in Raleigh, as he won his heat of the 100m dash in a time of 11.18 seconds. Dustin Ross and Jaiden Brandt also had strong showings for the Jags. Amongst a field of highly talented 1500m runners, Ross held his own crossing the line in 3:56.01. Brandt, after leading the men's 10,000m race through the halfway point, finished the 25-lap race in a time of 31:25.43. On the women's side, Jordan Humphrey earned her second school record of the season. Humphrey's record setting run resulted in her crossing the finish line of the women's 10k race in 38:57.46.
While there were many big performances from the Jags in Raleigh, there was no shortage of success at Shorter. Shane Huckeba earned a top-five finish in the men's 5000m race, crossing the line in a time of 15:57.99. In flight one of the men's shot put, sophomore Austin Hendricks finished second with a throw of 11.67m. Just two places back was senior Garrett Matthews, who recorded a throw of 10.22m.
Both squads were represented well this past weekend, and look to keep improving in the final weeks leading up to the Peach Belt Conference Championships. The Jags will be back at it this weekend, April 4-5, at High Point University's VertKlasse Meeting.
