ASU Competes At PBC Championships

ROME, Ga. – Augusta State competed in its inaugural Peach Belt Conference Championships, held on the campus of Shorter where the Jaguar men took sixth and the women eighth.

In the opening day of the conference championships, the Augusta State men finished fifth amongst the seven-team field and the women notched seventh out of eight teams. ASU's Christian Collier shined in the men's long jump taking the championships with a distance of 6.97m. In the 100 meter dash, Collier finished sixth out of 17 competitors with a time of 10.90, while Levonta Reddick took 15th, respectively, in 12.13.

ASU 'A', the women's 4x100 meter relay squad of Janikqui Gaines, Ashley Johnson, Jasmine Griffin, and Amanda Orr, placed sixth, beating Clayton State and Montevallo in the eight-team field. Gaines represented ASU in the women's 400 meter dash taking ninth with a time of 1:02.91. Nwanneka Nnaka just missed a championship title in the women's hammer throw, earning second with a toss of 34.58m in a field of 10 teams.

In Saturday's events, the ASU men took sixth with 70 points and the women notched eighth with 24 points. The Jags were represented well in the men's 1500 meter run from Dustin Ross, who took third in 3:57.84. In the men's 800 meter run, Ryan McCarty (1:58.23) and James Hull (1:59.39) took fifth and sixth for ASU and in the men's 400 meter dash, Reddick took fourth in 49.16.

Reddick also competed in the men's 200 meter dash, taking seventh in 22.45 and in the 110 meter dash Micah Herriman and Garrett Matthews took sixth and seventh in 20.80 and 21.54.
