AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta State wrapped up competition at the Emory Invitational in Atlanta, Ga., Friday, March 22 through Saturday, March 23 with a list of first-place finishes and high-ranking scores.
Augusta State enjoyed early success in the Atlanta, Ga., event by placing well in Sessions 1 and 2 in Friday's competition. Jags junior Jaiden Brandt, also a cross country athlete, took first overall in the Men's 10000 Meter Run with a 31:44.29 final time. Matt Johnson (33:25.71) and Shane Huckeba (33:38.61) members of the cross country team, took fifth and sixth in the event. ASU 'A', comprised of Bryce Conway, James Hull, Adam Aldridge, and Dustin Ross took sixth out of ten teams in the Men's 4x800 Meter Relay.
Christian Collier, the ASU sophomore from Fairfax, Va., shined at the Emory Invitational by taking first in Flight 1 of the Men's long Jump preliminaries with a reach of 6.65m (+ 0.0) and finishing third in the long jump finals with the same score. In Heat 2 of the 100 Meter Dash Preliminaries, ASU's Levonta Reddick took first in 10.99 and in Heat 4 Christian Collier took first in 11.22.
Dustin Ross took first out of 22 competitors for the Jags in the Men's 5000 Meter Run (Seeded) with a time of 15:05.69. In the 1500 Meter Run, Preston Jones notched seventh in 4:16.17 and in the men's 5000 Meter Run B-Section, Jordan Herbert took fifth out of 35.
ASU produced in the 4x400 Meter Relays, with the women's 'A' team of Janikqui Gaines, Amanda Orr, Jasmine Griffin and Becky Newhouse finished first in Section 2 and the men's 'A' team of Kevin Carlie, Bryce Conway, James Hull, and Levonta Reddick, taking first in Section 2.
In the women's hammer throw, ASU women's basketball players Tiffany Jaecks (23.93m) and Tracy Aifuwa (27.83m) took fifth and sixth in Flight 1, with Nwanneka Nnaka taking sixth in Flight 2 and 12th overall in the hammer throw finals. In women's shot put, Aifuwa finished first in Flight 1 with a throw of 9.87m and finished 20th in the finals with the same score.
Ashley Johnson took second in Heat 1 of the Women's 100 Meter Hurdles in 16.04. She finished fourth in the preliminaries out of 25 athletes.
ASU travels to Durham N.C., for the Duke Invitational on April 5th and 6th.
