AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University men's tennis team hosted the Francis Marion Patriots for a Peach Belt Conference match on Tuesday and won 5-4 at Newman Tennis Center.
Augusta and FMU were tied 4-4 with only the No. 3 singles match left. AU's Gaspard Mathieu pulled out a three-set win to give the Jags the go-ahead point. FMU won No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, before junior Patrick Oliveira and senior Jose Cobo won 8-3 at No. 3 doubles.
Oliveira did his job at No. 1 singles when the nationally-ranked player won 6-0, 6-3. Senior Moritz Gehlhaus and freshman Martin Hurtado gave the Jags two more points with wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles.
The Jags host North Georgia for another Peach Belt match on Sunday, Feb. 25 at 2:00 p.m. in Newman Tennis Center.
