FLORENCE, S.C. – The Augusta University men's tennis team traveled for the first time of the young season to the City of Florence College Tennis Invitational at Florence Tennis Center, hosted by Francis Marion University, Friday and Saturday, Feb. 2-3. The Jaguars dropped two non-conference matches, 5-0, to Wingate and Palm Beach Atlantic, before beating Barton College 5-2.
In day one action on Friday, Augusta (1-2) ran into Wingate and couldn't manage a set win in the neutral-site meeting. Three singles matches went unfinished, but the Bulldogs grabbed the two other wins and swept the three doubles contests.
In day two, Palm Beach Atlantic delivered a 5-0 loss to the Jaguars on the final day of the tournament. Four singles matches didn't finish between the Jags and PBA and Augusta dropped two close 9-8 doubles matches to fall on the road. Facing Barton to conclude the tournament, the Jaguars won 5-2 to earn seventh.
Augusta hosts Benedict College on Monday, Feb. 5 for a 2:00 p.m. non-conference match at Newman Tennis Center.
