SUMTER, S.C. – Augusta University men's tennis junior Patrick Oliveira made it the finals of the ITA Southeast Regional that was held at Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, S.C., Sept. 29 – Oct. 2.
The non-sanctioned event featured men's and women's open singles A and B divisions and men's and women's open doubles A and B divisions.
Seeded fifth in the open singles A division, Oliveira won five straight matches to reach the finals. The junior from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil blazed his way through the round of 64, 32, and 16. In the quarterfinal match, Oliveira dropped the first set 2-6, but carded back-to-back 6-4 wins to reach the semifinals where he won 6-0, 6-2.
Kiranpal Pannu of Columbus State bested Oliveira in the finals 6-1, 7-5 to win the tournament.
