YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The Augusta University men's tennis team played its second road match in the Peach Belt Conference on Friday against the Young Harris Mountain Lions and dropped a close 5-4 match at the Bob & Gayle Nichols Tennis Complex.
The match moved the Jaguars to 5-5 overall and 0-5 in the Peach Belt, while YHC went to 4-5 overall and 2-2 in the league. All four of AU's wins came in singles play.
Ranked No. 12 in the nation for singles play, AU sophomore Patrick Oliveira gave the team a win at No. 1 singles, downing Daniel Tiboldi after he dropped the first set. Joao Ferreira shined at No. 2 singles and won a three-set battle, while Arthur Andrade and Joao Gabriel Freitas owned No. 3 and No. 4 singles.
The YHC Mountain Lions swept all three doubles matches to take the day.
Augusta hosts a non-conference dual match on Wednesday, March 8 against Wingate at 12:00 p.m. in Newman Tennis Center.
