AUGUSTA, Ga. – Hosting the Wingate Bulldogs for a non-conference match on Wednesday, the Augusta University men's tennis team lost a 7-2 match at Newman Tennis Center.
Augusta is now 5-6 on the season and Wingate jumped to 8-2 overall.
Nationally ranked No. 12, AU sophomore Patrick Oliveira won No. 1 singles against Filippo Pezzoli 6-1, 6-3, before Joao Gabriel Freitas owned No. 6 singles against Nicholas Oliveira 6-4, 6-2.
The Bulldogs swept doubles competition, but not with ease. At No. 3 doubles, Oliveira and Odyr Cruz dropped a tight 8-6 match and Joao Ferreira and Gabriel Dos Santos only lost 9-7.
Augusta travels to Francis Marion in Florence, S.C., on Friday, March 10 for a 2:00 p.m. Peach Belt Conference dual match. AU hosts Georgia College on Sunday, March 12 for a noon start at Newman Tennis Center.
