AUGUSTA, Ga. – The GRU Augusta men's teannis team took care of the visiting USC Aiken Pacers on Thursday afternoon to win a 6-3 Peach Belt Conference match at Newman Tennis Center for the Jaguars' last regular-season home match of 2015.
The match marked the last home event for senior duo Romain Brunie and Romain Ferreira.
GRU rolled doubles play to start the day – with Ferreira and Moritz Gehlhaus winning 9-7 in the first doubles match. Brunie teamed with Thomas Sevel to win 8-4 in number two doubles and Joao Gabriel Freitas and Gustav Anderson winning 8-4.
Ferreira won a long three-set match in number-one singles over Etttore Damiani 7-6, 2-6, 6-1. The Pacers won the next two singles matches, but Gehlhaus and Freitas were victorious in the number four and five slots to give the Jags the win.
The Jags have one more regular-season match scheduled for Sunday, April 19 at Lander in Greenwood, S.C., for a 1:00 p.m., Peach Belt Conference match.
