AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Jaguar Men's Tennis team topped rival USC Aiken 5-1, while the GRU Augusta women dropped a close battle 5-4 to the Pacers in Peach Belt Conference action Wednesday afternoon at Newman Tennis Center.
The Jaguar men improved to 12-4 overall and 2-2 in the Peach Belt Conference with the 5-1 win over USCA. The Jaguars swept all three doubles matches for an early advantage. USCA's Ettore Damiani won the No. 1 singles contest over Victor Cabellos, but GRU's Romain Ferreria downed Alejandro Andino to even the singles meeting 1-1. The third, fourth, fifth, and sixth singles matches did not finish play for the Jags to hold on for a 4-1 win.
The GRU Augusta women slid to 8-6 and 3-4 in the PBC with the one-point loss to the Pacers. The Jaguars won all their doubles meetings, but only got one win in singles play, from Gisela Font, to fall 5-4. The Jaguar women host Erskine tomorrow, Thursday March 27 for a 2:00 p.m. match at Newman Tennis Center.
Next up for the GRU men is a PBC match, with the women, this Saturday at Newman Tennis Center with the North Georgia Nighthawks at 2:00 p.m.
