AUGUSTA, Ga. – To cap off the 2012-13 season the Augusta State men's program earned a top-25 spot in the ITA Division II College Tennis Rankings, announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Wednesday afternoon.
The Jaguar men finished 22nd overall and were one of seven Peach Belt Conference schools to make the list, the most of any other conference. PBC rivals Armstrong Atlantic State took second for the men and first for the women, with men's Pirate leader Georgi Rumenov taking the No. 2 spot for singles and sharing No. 2 in doubles play with teammate Daniel Regan.
The PBC women were represented by Paola Cigui from Columbus State who took the No. 2 spot in singles, just ahead of AASU's Aledsandra Filipocski in third. CSU's Caroline Weikard and AASU's Clara Perez placed seventh and eighth in singles and Filipovski and Barbora Kritckova took the No. 2 spot in doubles for the Pirates, while Cigui and Weikard notched the No. 4 spot.
Follow the Leader: For the men, following Barry is (in order): Armstrong Atlantic, West Florida, Lynn, Hawaii Pacific, Concordia, Lander, Saint Leo, Rollins, and Columbus State. For the women, following Armstrong Atlantic in order is BYU Hawaii, Barry, Hawaii Pacific, Abilene Christian, Columbus State, West Florida, Saint Leo, Lynn, and Rollins.
Conference Count: Men's Top 25: Peach Belt - 7; Pac-West - 5; Lone Star & Sunshine State - 4; CACC, Gulf South, Independent, MIAA & Rocky Mountain - 1. The Sunshine State leads all conferences with four teams ranking inside the Top 10 while the Peach Belt boasts three. Women's Top 25: Sunshine State - 7; Pac-West - 4; Peach Belt - 3; Gulf South, Independent & Lone Star - 2; East Coast Conference, Great Lakes Valley, Heartland, MIAA & PSAC - 1. The Sunshine State had the most teams land inside the Top 10 with four while the Peach Belt and the Pac-West had two each.
