AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta State junior Victor Guimaraes and senior Jan Labas were named to the 2013 Peach Belt Conference All-Academic Team, according to a release from the conference office Thursday afternoon.
A finance major from Sao Paulo, Brazil, Guimaraes maintained a 3.57 GPA while playing the entire season of doubles play in the No. 1 slot with teammate Victor Cabellos. Guimaraes earned PBC All-Conference honors for doubles, competition, tallying a 14-9 record and a 12-9 singles record.
Labas, from Bratislava, Slovakia, was ASU's only senior this year. Labas posted a 3.81 GPA in his final year and graduated on May 10 with a BBA in management. Labas went 15-9 in doubles competition with teammate Romain Brunie as the No. 2 duo – enjoying seven consecutive wins from Mar. 5-19 and posted a 7-14 singles record at the No. 2 position.
To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution. The Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors oversee and select the teams.
