ASU Netters Earn Postseason Bids

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta State women's and men's tennis teams earned at-large bids to the NCAA Southeast Regional in an announcement from the NCAA late Tuesday.

With the selections, the ASU men's squad will be making its 11th appearance all-time, its ninth in the last 13 seasons and its seventh in the last eight years. The Lady Jags will be making their eighth postseason appearance in the last 13 seasons.

The Lady Jaguars are headed to the Savannah, Ga., regional site and will take on third-ranked and top-seeded Armstrong Atlantic State (23-0) on Monday, April 30 at 10:00 a.m., at Bacon Park.

The other semifinal match – also slated for 10:00 a.m., on Monday -- will pit No. 4 seed Erskine (23-3) out of Conference Carolinas against No. 5 seed Flagler (9-9) from the Peach Belt Conference. The winners will meet at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 1 for a berth in the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis National Championships at the Top Gun Tennis Academy in Louisville, Ky., on May 16-19 as a part of the 2012 NCAA DII Spring Championship Festival.

The ASU men's squad was one of seven PBC teams to advance to the postseason. All seven PBC teams will be playing in the NCAA Southeast Regional which will be divided into two sites; the first hosted by top-seeded Armstrong Atlantic State and the second hosted by second-seeded Columbus State. The Peach Belt is the only Division II conference to place seven teams in the field -- no other league has more than five.

ASU (15-9), the No. 6 seed and ranked 12th nationally, will take on third-seeded and ninth-ranked Lander in Columbus, Ga., in a rematch of last weekend's PBC Tournament quarterfinal in which the Bearcats edged the Jags, 5-4.

The Pirates (24-0) are the No. 1 seed in the Southeast Regional and will face the winner of the Wingate/Mount Olive matchup on Monday, April 30, at 2:00 p.m. in one regional semifinal match. The other semifinal match pits No. 4 seed Georgia College (11-8) against No. 5 Francis Marion (10-6) at 2:00 p.m.

Columbus State will take on seventh-seed North Georgia in the opening round of the tournament on Saturday, April 28 at 9:00 a.m. Just last week, CSU defeated the Saints 5-1 in the opening round of the PBC Tournament.
