AUGUSTA, Ga.
– The Augusta State's men's tennis team earned a bid to the
NCAA postseason, according to a recent announcement from the NCAA
headquarters in Indianapolis, Ind.
The No. 19 Jaguars (13-6) are one of eight Peach Belt Conference
programs in the NCAA's 64-team field. The eight PBC teams will play
in two preliminary-round sites in the Southeast Region; Armstrong
Atlantic State and Columbus State will serve as hosts.
ASU, which has advanced to the NCAA Regionals in seven of the last
11 seasons, will face USC Aiken on Thursday, May 6 at 1:00 p.m. in
Columbus, Ga. The Jags will be making their ninth NCAA postseason
appearance all-time, including their fifth trip in the last six
years.
The Lady Jaguar tennis team received an at-large bid as well. The
Lady Jags (13-8) are one of seven PBC women's tennis teams to land
a spot in the 64-team field. The seven PBC teams will play in two
preliminary-round sites in the Southeast Region; Armstrong Atlantic
State and Clayton State will serve as hosts.
ASU, the 29th-ranked team in the nation, will be making its sixth
postseason appearance in the last 11 seasons. The Lady Jags will
take on Columbus State on Friday, May 7 at time still to be
determined.
The Clayton State regional will be PBC-heavy with four of the five
teams coming from the conference. Georgia College & State will
play in the first-round match on Thursday against Lincoln Memorial.
The winner will advance to Friday to meet host Clayton State.
Columbus State will take on Augusta State in Friday's other
semifinal. The championship match is set for Saturday. Match times
have not yet been released.
