Jaguars Finish 11th at Southwestern Invitational

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Ca. – The Augusta University men's golf team placed eleventh in the Southwestern Invitational, hosted by Pepperdine at the North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif. The Jaguars shot 304 on Wednesday in their first event of the spring.

RESULTS

Augusta was in eleventh place and was paired with East Tennessee State, St. Mary's (CA), and San Joe State to begin the final round on Wednesday

Ben van Wyk, who finished Day 2 at 1-under-par, shot 1-over-par (73) for the final day to lead the Jags in a tie for 11th. Dan Sheehan shot an even 72 in the third round of playing, dropping 5 strokes from his second round score. Hampus Wijkstrom and Alex van Wyk finished in tie for 55th (+20). Jack Vajda rounded out AU in 63rd.  

 

San Diego State overtook Arizona State to take the top spot in the 12-team tournament and finished 3 shots better than the Sun Devils at 10-over-par. SMU took third (+18), Louisville took fourth (+21), an Pepperdine placed fifth (+24) for the top scoring teams.

The Jaguars travel to Hilton Head, South Carolina to play in the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate hosted by Francis Marion Feb 22-23. Augusta won the Wexford Plantation Invitational in 2020.
