Jaguars Sign Ben van Wyk For 2019-20

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta University men's head golf coach Jack O'Keefe announced that incoming freshman Ben van Wyk (George, South Africa) signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) with the Jaguars and will compete in the 2019-20 season.

Ben van Wyk is the younger brother of current freshman Alex van Wyk. He attended the Glenwood House School in George, South Africa, before enrolling at McKinlay Reid International Academy in George. van Wyk graduated in 2019 as a four-sport letterman – competing in golf, soccer, hockey, and cricket.

 

He represented the National South African Junior team at the 2018 Challenge Cup and won three and a half of his five matches to lead the team to the tournament title. Playing for the Southern Cape Golf Union, van Wyk shot a 65 and scored 10 of his team's 12 points at the 2018 South African U18 Inter-Provincial Tournament.

 

Other notable finishes in the 2018-19 season were a tie for sixth at the Joburg Junior Open, a tie for seventh at the Dimension Data Junior Open, a tie for 11th at the South African Stroke Play Championship, and a tie for 12th at the Cape Province Open. In the third round of the Cape Province Open, van Wyk shot 10-under-par on the front nine. Ben also joined his brother Alex to win the South African Primary school national championship together in grade school. He plans to study business at Augusta University.

 

van Wyk joins incoming freshman Jack Vajda as the two new AU signees for the 2019-20 season.
