SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Augusta University men's golf team is in first place through two rounds in the 2019 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championships at Crosswinds Golf Club. Augusta is 14-under-par and sits 13 shots ahead of Bethune-Cookman.
The three-round championship started on Monday with a 36-hole shotgun and finishes on Tuesday, April 30 with tee times beginning at 8:00 a.m. The Jaguars are seeking their fifth consecutive MEAC tournament title. Savannah State University is hosting the 2019 championships for the fifth straight season. The championship features Augusta, Bethune-Cookman, Maryland Eastern Shore, North Carolina A&T State, North Carolina Central and Savannah State. The winner will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship.
Augusta turned in a 279 (-9) in round one to edge out Bethune-Cookman by three strokes and fired 5-under 283 after round two.
Freshman Alex van Wyk and sophomore Alex Shead each shot 70 (-2) in the first round for AU, while van Wyk followed it with a 4-under 68 to take the top spot on the individual leaderboard. Shead is in second place and Jaguar senior Adam Walden is tied for third – highlighted by a 68 (-4) in round one.
Jaguar junior Gustav Andersson recovered from an opening 76 and turned in AU's third 68 (-4) of the day to sit tied for fifth. Augusta freshman Viktor Lindgren is tied for eighth overall.
