Jaguars Fifth Through Two Rounds At Augusta Haskins Award Invitational

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University men's golf team is in fifth place after two rounds of the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational at Forest Hills Golf Club on Saturday. The Jaguars are hosting the 41^st edition of their home event with 15 Division-1 teams from around the nation.

The event opened with a 36-hole shotgun start Saturday at Forest Hills on the par-72, 7,005-yard course. The 2019 field includes Augusta, Air Force, No. 39 Arkansas, Georgia State, Houston, No. 24 Illinois, Mercer, Northern Illinois, Notre Dame, No. 18 South Carolina, No. 7 Texas, UCF, USC Aiken, Virginia Tech, and No. 3 Wake Forest. Five teams competing are nationally-ranked in the top 50 and two are seated in the top 10.

Wake Forest leads the event at 29-under-par heading into Sunday's final round, while Texas is in second (-27). Arkansas sits third (-19), South Carolina fourth (-18), and Augusta is fifth (-9). Augusta was tied for sixth with Illinois and Houston at 5-under-par through round one. Wake Forest edged out Texas for the top spot on the leaderboard after the first 18 holes. Wake Forest shot 19-under-par in round one to set a new tournament record for the lowest first round score. It is the third best round overall in tournament history. WF's Cameron Young also set a new tourney mark for lowest individual round with a 63 (-9).

Augusta freshman Alex van Wyk, junior Gustav Andersson, sophomore Alex Shead, freshman Viktor Lindgren, and senior Adam Walden made up AU's starting five. Andersson and Shead are tied for 12^th after each shooting 70 (-2) in back-to-back rounds on Saturday. Lindgren sits tied for 25^th, van Wyk 32^nd, and Walden 61^st. Andersson had three birdies on the front nine and two back while Shead carded two on the front nine and three birdies on the back.

The event concludes on Sunday, April 7 with tee times off holes one and 10 beginning at 8:30 a.m.
