STANFORD, Calif. – The Augusta University men's golf team placed 13th at the NCAA Stanford Regional on Wednesday afternoon at the Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Calif. The Jaguars made their 22nd trip all time to the NCAA Tournament and the fifth straight under head coach Jack O'Keefe. Augusta turned in its best round of the tournament with a 6-over 286 in the third and final round.
Host No. 12 Stanford took care of the tournament on its home course and won the event at 23-under-par. No. 2 Arizona State and No. 26 North Carolina tied for second at 11-under-par, while unranked Georgia Southern placed fourth (-6) and No. 14 LSU fifth (+2). There are 13 teams and 10 individuals at three regionals and 14 teams and five individuals at the three other regionals. The top five teams in each regional will advance to the NCAA Championships May 17-29 at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark. The top individual from non-qualifying teams at each regional will also earn a trip to the finals.
The Jaguars ended the event with an 876 (+36), finishing four shots off of 12th place. Augusta freshman Viktor Lindgren led the team in a tie for 48th (+7), after shooting back-to-back 72s and a round-three 73 (+3). Jags junior Gustav Andersson tied for 53rd (+8) and senior Adam Walden fired his low round of the season and AU's best of the week with a 3-under 67 on Wednesday. Walden finished tied for 63rd (+11), freshman Alex van Wyk tied for 67th (+13), and sophomore Alex Shead finished 73rd (+16).
